        1067 views

The huge technology giants Apple and Microsoft came up with their latest quarterly figures earlier this week. Apple reports rise in sales of its iPhones while Microsoft is upbeat on the outlook for its cloud computing division.

Apple and Microsoft both announced a radical decrease in their workforce and after the major reduction they came up with quarterly figures to ensure the investors about their standings in the market. A strong performance from iPhone sales in the quarter helped Apple to boost their figures. The giant made profits £4.5bn for March to June, a rise of 12% compared to the same period last year. During the quarter Apple sold 35.2 million iPhones, representing a lift of 13% on the previous year. However, sales of its iPad tablet fell for the second consecutive quarter – down 9% to 13.3m.

According to the reports released by Microsoft they didn’t have a promising 2nd quarter as they reported a 7% fall in the profit. It generated profits of £2.7bn. Microsoft took over Nokia last year which again didn’t work in their favor and made losses of £563m, after not so promising figures it announced 18000 job cut offs. Its chief executive Satya Nadella said: “We are driving growth with disciplined decisions, bold innovation and focused execution.”

He highlighted the strong performance of Microsoft’s cloud division, were he said revenues are forecast to double this year. Like its rival Apple, Microsoft has also recently announced a major reduction in headcount, which will see 14% of its workforce of 127,000 going.
