Renew your tax credits online, says HMRC

You can renew your tax credits online if you’ve received a renewal pack with an ‘annual declaration’ with the code ‘TC 603 D’.

Renewal packs are sent between April and June. If you claimed tax credits after 6 April, your pack is usually sent the following year.

You don’t need to renew unless you get an annual declaration in your renewal pack.

Contact the Tax Credit Helpline if you only received your ‘annual review’ with code ‘TC 603 R’ and you need to report a change or a mistake on the form

You must renew by phone or by post if:

  • your annual declaration has the code ‘TC 603 D 2

  • you need to change your bank details

  • you didn’t receive your renewal pack by 30 June

Before you start

Note: Your details won’t be saved if you exit without completing the transaction.

To renew online, you’ll need:

  • your National Insurance number

  • your nbsp;total income (including your partner’s) for the last tax year

  • your ‘tax credits renewal number’ - the 15 digit number on the bottom right of your annual declaration

  • details of benefits you or your partner received in the last tax year

  • details of any changes you need to report

  • both an ‘annual review’ with code ‘TC 603 R’ and an ‘annual declaration’ with code ‘TC 603 D’

After you’ve renewed

The Tax Credit Office will send you an award notice within 8 weeks of receiving your renewal, telling you how much you’ll get.

Call the Tax Credit Helpline if there’s a mistake on your notice.

Renewal deadline

The deadline is usually 31 July but your pack will confirm the deadline.

If you miss the deadline your tax credits payments will stop and you’ll be sent a summary. Your tax credits claim will end 30 days after you’re sent the summary if you don’t renew.
